Research Interest:

My major interest is to identify and study tumor suppressor genes in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) by the combination of mono-chromosome transfer, gene expression profiling, and genotyping techniques. The underlining mechanisms of tumor suppression, which include the anti-angiogenic, apoptosis-inducing, and growth inhibitory effects are currently investigated. Polymorphism analysis of some of our tumor suppressor genes and their associations with NPC risk are my other major research interest. Mechanisms of inactivation of tumor suppressor genes in NPC including promoter hypermethylation, chromosomal deletion, and mutation, are also one of my major research concerns. I am so interested in studying tumor hypoxia in NPC since hypoxia is associated with resistance to radio- and chemo-therapies, as well as a more aggressive tumor phenotype with poorer survival. My second field of interest is to study the immunomodulalory and anti-tumor activities of Chinese medicinal herbs and other natural products and the underlining cellular and molecular mechanisms of myeloid leukemic cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. My research also concerns the modulatory effects and the underlining mechanisms of cytokines on neuronal cancer cells.
